Revenue pocket takes a hit as alcohol and cigarrette sales drop: South Africa

South Africa is one African country with a lot of confirmed COVID-19 cases but from the 1st of June the country is moving down to Level 3. This sees restrictions being relaxed a little, allowing more business activity.



However, the revenue generation from alcohol and cigarrete taxes has perfomed below average. In addition, even if things normalize and the alert level drops to 1, people are likely to priotitize saving more than recreational activities. There is also need of assistance from the IMF and the World bank.
